Puerto Madryn, in northern Patagonia, was founded by Welsh immigrants who wanted to establish a Welsh republic here. They never got their wish for the founding of a new state but a Welsh community did prosper here, with many residents today tracing their roots to Welsh ancestry. Today, this is one of the best places on the planet to see whales, not Wales. When i first stepped onto Puerto Madryn beach i saw seven whales in the sea at the same time:
