I enjoy a night in Ayia Napa where I spent three of the best summers of my life from 1995-97. Very strange to return 20 years older. Where did that time go? Napa is completely changed in many ways but in some senses time feels like it has completely stood still here.
I flew in to Cyprus from Lithuania, having spent a night in Vilnius airport. Then it was two buses via Larnaka to my former summer home.
These days, Ayia Napa is decidedly Russian and British. Back in the 90s, the vibe tipped more to a chilled out Scandinavian atmosphere.
Another thing that has changed is that the atmosphere is more in your face. I think Ayia Napa is taking itself a bit too seriously compared to back in the day. It was definitely more laid back before.
Brilliant to be back though..and good to leave with an Ayia Napa hangover.
